Pompeii
Nature is wasteful
said the Roman
If Man were not to paint
her sunsets in glorious reds
and purples
and her mountains in splendid green
no one would remember
these wondrous evenings
Yet the Earth, when it
blew its top a moment later,
entombed him in volcanic love
so that Men may centuries later
marvel at his body still
standing sprawled
across the painted wall,
shielding a bloody sun.
